Srn JRSF from Spain writes:  For years I have investigated the role of the exiled Spanish Republicans in the 'cryptanalytic' efforts for the French and Britsh army.  Please do you know any names or information about the cryptanalytic section of the British army.  I am especially searching for names of the Spanish Republic officers who engaged in the French Foreign Legion breaking the Spanish and Italian codes.  They worked for two years with the French and later they may have possibly escaped to England.

E-mail us with any relevant information, however unimportant you might think it is.

Mr H from Brechfa writes:
Where can I get information about the Brechfa camp?  I live in Brechfa and have learnt about the camp from older people here.  Apparently the children rioted and went on the rampage through the village!  Would there be anyone still alive who was at the camp?

E-mail us with any relevant information.

Mr F writes:
Maybe I should have done this years ago, but my great uncle was a very private man, however, my great uncle known as John Garcia, fought against Franco in the Spanish Civil War and like many others escaped across the Pyrenees to France, where after enduring very harsh conditions by the French volunteered to fight for them against the Nazi's.
He was one of te lucky ones to make it to England and eventually found himself serving in either 50 or 52 Middle East Commando, where he was eventually captured with the fall of Crete.
After being a POW he eventually escaped in late 1944 and linked up with US troops before being repatriated to the UK.
I know he spent time in a military/convalescent home somewhere in Hertfordshire and along with the remaining members of his unit was eventually billited and then de-mobbed in the Thirsk area, hence why I beleive there was a flourishing Spanish community in the North East.
He settled in Middlesbrough and married his sweetheart a good Basque girl called Celia.
He was a very proud man and certainly because of his exploits it instilled a sense of duty and patriotism in me, resulting in me joining the British Army.
Unfortunately he died last weekend (email sent 20 July 2004 - editor) and his funeral is planned for later this week, but it maybe on Monday of next at Acklam Cemetery and I was wondering if there are any members of your group who may have served with him of knew him after the war?
Failing that, do you have any more information about the units he served with or anyone that may have served in them that is still alive?

E-mail us with any relevant information.
